[:pt]Comprei iclay para brincar com os meus filhos durante as férias. iclay é uma alternativa à plasticina muito maleável e leve. É feito na Coreia e na verdade está mais próximo do Fimo e Biscuit do que da plasticina porque não racha ou fica com bolor quando seca.
Seca ao ar, é extremamente flexível e é super fácil de misturar cores. Parece que estamos a brincar com pastilha elástica, pela forma como a massa estica até ficar apenas um fiozinho fininho mas não é tão pegajoso nas mãos. Pelo contrário, tem uma consistência que parece quase coberta de pó e portanto é mais limpo do que a plasticina. A única vez que fiquei com as mãos manchadas foi quando borrifei um bocadinho de água na massa que estava a ficar seca.
Os fabricantes dizem que se adicionar água e voltar a fechar a massa seca no recipiente que esta volta a ficar mole, o que quer dizer que não é preciso deitá-la fora mesmo quando os miúdos se esquecem de por a tampa na embalagem. Ainda não experimentei fazer isso mas se for verdade é fantástico.
O que gostei nesta massa de modelar é que quando seca fica com uma consistência de borracha esponjoja em vez de ficar duro como o Fimo. Fica fofinha e apetece apertar 🙂
E melhor que isso, se fizermos uma bola e deixarmos secar, ficamos com uma bola saltitona. O Tiago ADOROU isso!
Tenho andado a trabalhar com resina últimamente e a minha filha pediu-me para ficar com um dos corações que fiz. Depois pediu para o transformar num colar. Como era um dos que têm contas de vidro milefiori no interior, é quase impossível fazer um furo perfeitinho coma broca porque a resina é mais mole do que o vidro e a broca desliza nas contas de vidro e faz uma grande porcaria. Decidi experimentar fazer uma moldura de iclay para o coração.
Tal como o Fimo, o iclay não cola bem a vidro ou resina mas ficou justo o suficiente para o coração não cair. Coloquei um arame no topo para prender ao fio e deixei secar. O arame vai sair facilmente porque a borracha é demasiado mole e rasga com alguma facilidade, mas também é fácil de voltar a por no sítio, adicionando mais um bocadinho de massa.
Não ficou perfeito porque foi feito com a “ajuda” da Joana, mas a ideia era precisamente deixá-la fazer o seu próprio colar.
A melhor característica da moldura feita com iclay é que, como se transforma em borracha, protege os cantos da resina contra quedas e riscos. Estou a considerar fazer uma capa para o iphone com este material. Aposto que funciona para proteger os cantos contra quedas acidentais. E o melhor é que posso escolher as cores que quiser.[:en]I bought some iclay to play with my kids during the holidays. iclay is a really soft, super light, alternative to plasticine. It’s made in Korea and it’s actually closer to polymer clay and biscuit because it doesn’t crack or become mouldy when it dries.
It’s an extremely flexible air-dry clay and it’s really easy to mix colours. It feels a lot like playing with chewing gum because when you try to pull it apart it stretches until forming really thin strings, but it’s not as sticky on your hands. In fact, it’s got an almost powdery feel and the only time it stained my hands was when I sprayed some water onto it because it was beginning to dry up.
They even say that if you add some water to a fully dried piece and place it back inside the closed container that it will become soft again and you don’t ever need to throw it out. I haven’t tried doing that yet but if it’s true it’s pretty cool.
But what I really liked about it is that when it’s dry it turns into foam rubber. It’s not hard plastic like cured polymer clay. It’s soft and you can squeeze it in your hands. In fact, if you roll it into a ball and let it dry, you’ve got a bouncy ball – my son LOVED that!

from my 3-year-old daughter 🙂 It was her necklace, after all.
I’ve been working with resin lately, and my daughter asked if I’d give her one of the hearts I made. Then she wanted to turn it into a necklace. It was one of the milefiori hearts, so it has glass beads inside, making it almost impossible to drill a hole through the top because the resin is softer than the glass and the drill bounces off the glass beads and makes a mess. I decided to try using the iclay to make a frame for the heart.
Just like polymer clay, it doesn’t bond with glass or resin very well, but it was a snug enough fit that it won’t fall off. I attached a wire loop on the top and let it dry. The wire loop may be yanked out in time but it’s easy enough to replace with a little more clay.
The best thing about the iclay frame is that it, because it’s rubber, it protects the edges of the resin, so if my daughter drops it it will bounce and be more resistant to breaks and scratches. I’m considering making an iphone cover out of it. I think it would work perfectly against accidental drops and I can mix my own colours :)[:]
